CITRUS Australia will hold its inaugural Citrus Technical 2015 in Mildura, Victoria, in March.

The body has labelled the event the “key national event on the industry calendar” and selected Mildura as being ideally located within the “Tri-State citrus region”.

Organisers this year have assembled a program that features practical production and postharvest information, featuring presentations by leading horticultural scientists, technicians and industry representatives, balanced with field demonstrations and site visits highlighting the latest technology available to the citrus industry.

Chief executive officer of Citrus Australia, Judith Damiani, said one of many highlights of Citrus Technical 2015 will be world best technical practices for controlling pests and diseases on citrus and preventing postharvest decay to ensure food safety and market access.

Citrus Australia is predicting a crowd of about 300 or more citrus industry representatives including growers, packers, marketers, exporters, researchers, government representatives, commercial providers and regional associations.

The citrus industry is one of the largest horticulture industries in Australia and is worth $540 million with fresh citrus exports valued at $190 million.
