ESPERANCE’S only half marathon event is on this weekend – but it is not only for competitive runners.

South East Runners committee member Leanne Cassam is asking the community to tie their laces tight and gear up for this year’s Cliffs Esperance Community Fun Run and Half Marathon.

The annual event will take place from the Whale Tail this Sunday, September 27, and will see community members compete in a 5, 10 or 21.2 kilometre run.

“The 5 and 10 kilometre races are fun runs,” Cassam said.

“You have to be over 15 to run the 21.2 kilometre half marathon.”

Cassam said the fun runs were a great way for locals who weren’t keen on competitive racing to put their fitness and endurance levels to the test.

She said it also gave serious runners the chance to test themselves being the only half marathon event Esperance offered.

“Challenge yourself and see if you can go the distance,” she said.

“It’s an opportunity to be involved within a competitive event along the redeveloped foreshore.

“If you need to walk part of the distance that’s fine, just get out there and be active within the community.

“You never know just how far you can run until you give it a go.”

Adult entry into the fun runs is $20 prior to the event and $25 on the day; entry for anyone under 18 is $5.

Entry into the half marathon is $25 prior to the event and $30 on the day.

Cassam said it was the first year the committee had introduced a family pass and looked forward to seeing family members compete and support each other.

“This year we have also introduced a family pass so that’s two adults and two children $40 prior to the event and $50 on the day,” she said.

She said there was various cash prizes to be won and asked racers to arrive early prior to their chosen events.

“1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters will receive prize money donated by Cliffs,” she said.

“The half marathon starts at 8am and the 5 kilometre and 10 kilometre starts at 9am.”

“There’s a race briefing before each of the events, so we’re asking people to arrive half an hour early so they can collect their race numbers and listen to the briefing.

“Race numbers can also be collected from Taylors Beach Tavern between 3.30-5pm on Saturday.”

To enter into any of the three races, entry forms are available inside the Esperance Express, Dempster Sporting or SportsPower or off the clubs website, southeastrunners.myclub.org419论坛
